| Review: I read this book before watching the film and i was apprehensive to see if they would get all the important things from the book into the film. I think they did a very good job to get it all in, in just over two hours. Cast: I thought they cast this film perfectly and all the characters played there roles perfectly. My favourite character from the book and film is Jace as he was so witty and he was really witty in the film which is good. Story line: The story in this film is all very cramped together as the book was quite big so i think the screenwriter done a good job fitting it all in the 2 hours. Music: The music in this film was perfect and fitted in with the film perfectly. overall i think this film was impressive but there was some things that they changed which makes me wonder how they will be changing the story line in the second film. Worth a watch…7/10 |

| Review: A different twist to a classic tale. Without giving away too much (because you definitely should see this movie!) Day be Johnson plays the daring, super strong hero of Greek mythology told in fables across time depicting ultimate masculinity. Hercules, son of the god Zeus (or not) embarks on many missions/trials of bravery across ancient Greece for… well… money gold rather than notoriety and heroism, theyre just byproducts of his daring deeds. He, accompanied by his band of fellow mercenaries, fight battles against insurmountable odds, monsters (rather people dressed as monsters) and hordes looking for fortune and fame culminating in unwittingly enslaving the kingdom of Thrase for a tyrannical Lord who declares himself king in the same of Hercules success against the rebels. Seeing what be has done, Hercules decides to follow his heart and act selflessly to right his wrongs and liberate the kingdom ultimately fulfilling his heroic potential with the aid of his trusted followers. Johnson does well as the muscle bound, super strong in this somewhat more believable tale of the Greek hero with an excellent supporting cast all round. Where clever hype and dramatic storytelling pave the way for mislead perceptions of a demi god in the minds of the masses. Very entertaining and enjoyable which every action buff will thoroughly enjoy. Brilliant cinematography and fight scenes with exceptional writing ultimately let down by a surprisingly rushed, tame ending. I hope theres a sequel, 8/10. |

Le pioggie intense di questi giorni in Italia si sono trasformate in gocce d’oro in Portogallo, per la pattuglia di italiani sotto l’egida dell’AISP l’Associazione Italiana di Storia Postale invitata a partecipare all’esposizione Nazionale Filatelica del Portogallo che quest’anno si e’ tenuta a Viana do Castelo nel nord del Portogallo. Il gruppo degli italiani capeggiata da Mario Mentaschi, Vicepresidente AISP e membro internazionale della giuria che vedeva giurati Portoghesi ed uno Svedese. Il gruppo formato da Claudio Ernesto Manzati, Carlo Negri e Giovanni Nembrini con le rispettive consorti al seguito, vedeva anche la presenza di Corrado Carli e Giorgio Magnani, è stato guidato dall’infaticabile organizzatore quale è Lorenzo Carra, alla scoperta delle bellezze storico-religiose ma anche culinarie del Portogallo. Oporto, Coimbra e Fatima sono state le mete del gruppo con una puntata in Spagna a Santiago de Compostela seguita dalla visione nei pressi di Vigo, del ponte strallato autostradale a due carreggiate che attraversa lo Stretto di Rande (nell’immagine) a cui partecipò alla costruzione completata nel 1978 Giorgio Magnani. | Review: This movie is awesome, it has a great love story.. and its kind of a shocker in some parts, it has got a little comedy in between, at least for me.. i think its definitely on my top 50 movies of drama type of movie. and i recommend to all that find drama a good cinematography gender. really liked it, and i was really surprised by the fact that Daniel Radcliffes embraced this roll so well, it was a really moving film from the start till the end. and for me, i think that this movie should have an higher rating than 6.6, if Im not mistaken, because its really an awesome movie, and everyone should have a look at it. well, this is my review, thank you |

| Review: The institution of marriage, being a foundation of civilization since the dawn of man, has adapted to subsequent eras but, in some aspects, not necessarily improved. Problems between men and women abound regardless of the type of their relationship, resulting in various commentaries and insights as to possible solutions, either temporary or permanent. Yet, the central question remains: can two people, often complete strangers when initially meeting, remain faithful to one another and build enough trust to establish a meaningful and fulfilling relationship? There have been several notable examples but, as time seems to reveal, knowing more may result in understanding less. At last, we have a cinematic representation of the perilous ups and downs of the journey from courtship to romantic climax to marital pitfalls, all within the context of an increasingly cynical social construct. Certainly, the subject of strained marriages is nothing new to the movies, but David Finchers adaptation of Gillian Flynns best-selling novel goes deeper, bleaker and more harrowing than any other film of its kind. Fatal Attraction was a childish affair compared to the Dunnes.As the film opens, with a rapid and nervously jumpy energy, Fincher gives a masterclass on how to establish mood in a thriller. Every scene is impactful, every shot built to further the tension and tighten the air. The conclusion seems fairly certain, and Fincher wants us to want that conventional denouement. After all, wouldnt that be easier and safer to digest than anything else? Yet, Fincher refuses to gratify our simplistic expectations. Flynn, in adapting her own novel, tightens up the pace and slightly alters the ending to create a remarkably paced and exquisitely fashioned narrative, but it is Finchers trademark cool, detached visual style complete with complex shadows and hints of blue and gray that put the finishing touch on this experience. One simply cannot look away from this film. At the halfway point, the reveal utilized deflates any and all expectations we may have had, only to overwhelm us with endless questions as to how, what and why. The rest of the film covers those inquiries, yet still retains a level of ambiguity and forlornness. We continue to watch because it is in our interest as thriller-fans to do so, but on a subconscious level, there is the knowledge that conventionality is out of the question.Finchers stylistic, sometimes smug, modus operandi is exemplified through his extraordinary ability to cast perfectly. Long understood as an overtly-handsome, sometimes aloof actor, Ben Affleck carries this film thanks to the control and forced exactness of Finchers directing. His aloofness, as several critics have noted, is utilized here to the greatest effect, causing the character of Nick Dunne to remain an enigma and a sympathetic man simultaneously. Very few actors could pull this off, but Affleck makes it look easy, using his broad, muscular body structure, puppy-dog eyes and down-turned smile to keep everyone guessing as to his true motive. Motive is more crucial here than in most thrillers. Flynns story questions the deepest expectations and assumptions we make about other people, particularly those we think we would like to spend a significant portion of our life with. Affleck can reflect this as can Rosamund Pike, whose Siamese eyes, creamy skin and sultry voice give nothing away about herself, keeping our guesses constant throughout. Early scenes between Nick and Amy, showing their attempts to win each other over, can only truly be understood in light of the entire film, an aspect of Flynns novel Fincher exploits particularly well. If nothing is as it seems, what are we supposed to presume could or will happen? As the authorities track the clues as to the whereabouts of Amy Dunne and Nicks involvement, the notion of the simplest answer being best arises. This is frequently a logical error, yet on a certain level that may be the best method of approach… |

| Review: Dont waste your money. Rather than conveying the excess of the time, this film is brimming with trite costume and set design, and more than anything – has some really bad acting. Obvious and boring. The actors are not compelling. Ms. Mulligan is so bad, she sounds and looks as it she has been dubbed by another actor. Plus, she is simply not attractive enough in appearance or delivery to convince anyone that she is a love interest. The Myrtle character truly looks like a cartoon. The sets look as if they have been computer generated, which I think they were. The first long shot to Gatsbys house looks amateurish, as if a film student has built a model. And then filmed it. The film contains one cliché after another. Loud does not equal fascinating. Very, very disappointing. This film makes the Redford version look like a masterpiece. |

| Review: Boyhood Hits all the Marks and Still MissesBoyhood is a critical darling, and thats putting it mildly. It has a nice, non-controversial family, and it presents every coming of age childhood milestone at least once. Thus, it has no focus. The technique, filming the movie over 12 years with the same actors, is an interesting experiment in film. However, its technique gets in the way of quality story telling and substance. Trying something innovative does not mean the film should get a pass and automatically get raves. In the film theres one bullying event, one break up, one drunken night with the guys, one of everything, like a sample platter at Golden Corral. There was even one non-white character in the film. Moreover, there is no follow up on any of the events. What is so masterful about that? The film has a series of disconnected events in a boys life that had no focus. Growing up is not a plot, no matter how many people are fooled into believing it is. The dialogue was contrived. Its as if every line from teenage Mason was taken from a Smiths song. As I was watching, I couldnt help thinking, Heaven Knows Im Miserable Now At least the film didnt have an out of place tragedy like a Girlfriend in a Coma. Yes, I wanted to stop him, for I had heard that one before. Morrissey does pathos better and with him we dont have to suffer through two hours of pretentiousness. Mason was too confident about his misery. His dialogue we pre-packaged, as if he was reciting a script, not living in the moment. The film features a series of moments, a few interesting ones, but mostly tiresome first world problems from an uninteresting boy and family. As a film buddy of mine stated, the film could have been called The Discreet Charm of the Petite Bourgeoisie. However, it wasnt charming, nor funny, nor revelatory or original like the Buñuel classic. With the exception of Ethan Hawke, who, to be fair, had the best dialogue in the film, the acting was mediocre. Perhaps filming the movie over 12 years made it hard for the actors to stay sharp and focused on their characters, so the acting was uneven throughout. There was nothing of note in the music, other than the cliché of highlighting the passage of time with a hit song in various scenes. It was cute at first, then it became tiresome. Rating: Rent itIf your sister, mother, brother or friend wants to see it, you can watch it together and not upset anyone with confusing events like actual poverty and unexpected occurrences like black people appearing on the screen. Moreover, you can talk during the film because there is no need to really pay close attention while it is playing. You wont miss anything. Otherwise, see the infinitely better The Way Way Back if you want to see a cute coming of age movie. This movie has already risen into the pantheon of overrated movies, even before it wins some undeserved Oscars. It was style over substance. If I had to describe this film in one word, other than overrated, it would be trite.Peace, Tex Shelters |

| Review: Holy Moly, I see people talking about no one in the theater for this and I know why, no trailers no advertising at all. I look everything up before I go, as soon as I saw IMDb reviews and Gandolfini I knew I was in. Its a dark twisty movie with equally dark and twisty characters. There were gangsters and good guys and bad guys. However they are anything BUT cookie cutter, run of the mill, you have seen this all before good guys and bad guys. There are explanations you see how some of them end up the way they do, its not black and white. Crazy outwardly isnt the most crazy in the room. The most violent characters can also be some of the most kind. There is no typical in this film. It draws you in and never lets you go. Keeps you guessing till the end. |

Seated firmly in the center are a trio of dazzling performances from Channing Tatum, Steve Carell, and Mark Ruffalo, all of which make a compelling case for their career best works.Written by Oscar-nominee Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye, Foxcatcher tells the story of Mark Schultz (Tatum), an Olympic wrestler who befriends billionaire John Du Pont (Carell) in the mid-1980s. Along with his brother Dave (Ruffalo) and his wife Nancy (Sienna Miller), that new relationship leads to unforeseen consequences.At the core of this morality tale is Bennett Miller, the Oscar- nominated director of Capote and Moneyball. He allowsFoxcatcher to study its subjects, and give the audience an in-depth understanding of all the motives involved. With the help of Cinematographer Greig Fraser, and composer Rob Simonsen, the movies melancholy atmosphere is truly compelling. Millers brilliance isnt in things he chooses to show, but in the things he chooses not to. He draws out scenes that offer so much to the narrative. Theres still so much left on the table that we do not know, which in itself, is perfectly acceptable. Life never gives us all the answers we seek. Miller, Futterman, and Frye understand this. Material like this calls to be made into a film. Im so glad that these three answered the call.What Steve Carell achieves as John DuPont is not just a performance by a full embodiment. With strength and precision, he understands DuPont, a man with an extreme outlook on reality. Carell doesnt just ask us to sympathize with John, between his awkward behavior and his constant yearning to impress his familys legacy, he demands our understanding. If I didnt already know about the film for the past two years, I wouldnt have recognized him. His performance is completely focused and profound. Looking at the way he carries himself through the film, you are witnessing one of the purest creations of a character this year. When hes not on-screen, youre secretly wishing he was.When it comes to Channing Tatum, I have to admit that I never FULLY understood the appeal. Discovered the young ferocious actor in Dito Montiels A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints nearly a decade ago, and afterwards was only mildly entertained by his presence in films like 21 Jump Street and Side Effects. What he does in Millers film is something beyond anything I could have ever thought he could do. Tatum doesnt just do an imitation, he channels the inner workings of a man desperate for more. His peculiarities are richly on display as he yearns for a father figure outside of the shadow of his more successful brother. He embraces the odd DuPont, against all logical instincts, but you can see exactly why he would feel so compelled to do so. Mark Ruffalo gives Dave the ticks and beats of an original creation. Picking at his beard (something I know all too well), constantly engaging in team leadership, and hugging his younger brother whose more of a son than anything. Ruffalo mounts himself on the perch of a loving brother just trying to create success for himself and his family. This is another solid outing for him. Co-star Vanessa Redgrave, as Johns fragile mother, is marvelous in her short scenes while Sienna Miller adds a needed dynamic to understanding both Mark and Dave. The two women both offer compassion and balance.Foxcatcher is terrifying, disturbing, and utterly engaging. A slowly unraveled piece that is risky but pays off immensely. Its cautious yet strictly well-defined as a character study. Like all great films with great performances, its element of truth is plainly apparent. On the gray-skied farm, we will get to know three interesting men, some of which, well never truly understand. |

| Review: Many movies show the atrocities of war with dour scenarios of cruelty and grisly images of violence. Fury begins in much the same way, presenting a grim cadre of tank operators in World War II whose seemingly heartless wartime ethics become heightened through the contrasting eyes of an innocent young soldier. Initially grasping for unearned emotion through stereotyped character development, Fury quickly changes course to surprise with shocking, thought-provoking examinations of humanity during conflict. Yes, the inexperienced newcomer clearly represents the last sliver of compassion in an escalating affray of brutality, but his steady corruption marks an enthralling expedition into the real horrors of such struggles for ephemeral victory. Theres no distinct line between good and evil, no knights in shining armor, and only a tenuous grasp on what separates right from wrong.In April of 1945, Sergeant Don Wardaddy Collier (Brad Pitt) leads his five-man squad and their Sherman tank Fury in the Allies final push across Nazi Germany during World War II. Its a far cry from the classic, bloodless takes on WWII set around the mid 40s, like Battle of the Bulge and The Tanks Are Coming, instead more closely resembling the productions focused on overwhelming fear, disorientation, and unpreparedness, like Vietnam epics Platoon or Full Metal Jacket. In analyzing the emotions, tattered ethics of unimaginable pressures, and understandable reluctance toward surrendering to the mindset of detached killing, Fury balances controversial, uncomfortable, and superbly powerful concepts. Involving a particularly heavy-hitting rite of passage for a novice still struggling to retain some semblance of scruples, the picture is primed for clashing ideals and discordant viewpoints on heroism. All the while, the rarely seen cinematic adaptation of tank warfare is refreshing and raw, capturing gut-wrenching gunplay and harrowing scenarios of desperate survival. Even in moments of relative calm, theres a lingering aura of spontaneous attacks, as if an ambush could materialize while characters merely consume rations, squabble with fellow soldiers, or futilely converse with a pretty German girl. |
